What’s Causing My Back Pain

Your doctor at Raleigh Neuro will start by asking you when it started, how long you’ve been experiencing the pain, and why you think it began. If you’re of older age, have a sedentary lifestyle, smoke, or have depression, it may be a reflection of your overall health. However, another very common cause of back pain is simple overactivity — have you done anything active out of your normal routine? Overexerting yourself even with something as simple as household chores can stretch and tear at the muscles and ligaments in your back. If that’s the case, the pain will fade in a few days.

Though the majority of adults will experience back pain at some point in their lives, that doesn’t make the condition any less of a cause for concern. Whether your back pain is mild or severe, sporadic or constant, the staff at Raleigh Neuro is here to help. Together you and your doctor will figure out the cause of your upper or lower back pain and how it can be best treated.

However, if your pain has lasted more than a few days and doesn’t seem to be relenting, and you want to know what’s causing my back pain, it’s best to consult Raleigh Neuro for the foremost expert opinion in the area. X-rays, a CT scan, or an MRI may be needed to pinpoint the cause of your pain and determine the best course of treatment. You may be suffering from a disc injury, spinal stenosis, kidney stones, or other similar, serious condition. Once your doctor at Raleigh Neuro has your full history, appropriate action can be taken.

Getting Treatment

Raleigh Neuro has been at the forefront of neurosurgery for decades, and regardless of your specific situation, you’re in good hands. That being said, the staff will not rush to suggest surgery if it’s not needed. Many cases of back pain fade with rest, medication, exercise and/or physical therapy. Your doctor will fully explore these methods with you first and foremost. If improvement isn’t seen, you may be a candidate for surgery.

If you do happen to be a candidate, Raleigh Neuro can help. As the primary provider of neurosurgical care in central North Carolina, there’s no better alternative. One of over a dozen procedures they can offer may be the solution you need, and your doctor will know exactly which one will best alleviate your back pain.
